What was the concept previously to getting admission to BSMD?

Earlier the students who use choose colleges in the Philippines for their Medical career after their senior secondary was asked to pursue a 1-year course of BS and should have cleared the NMAT(National Medical Entrance test) or else they were compared with the students of +1 of India. After completing the 1-year course of BS course and clearing the NMAT they were considered eligible for the MD course.

What are the new guidelines?

NMC has provided new guidelines for Medical students that they need not apply for BS or has to attempt the NMAT to pursue MD as a part of their career. 

Are these guidelines acceptable in the Philippines?

CHED(Commission on higher education) has accepted the guidelines provided by NMC and allow students to appear for MD course without BS and NMAT.

What are the changes?

After the elimination of NMAT and BS courses, the student can sit for the MD course and the duration of the course is 5.5 years of which 4.5 years are for the course and 1 year for the internship. 

Also, students do not need to attempt any type of exam. They just need to have a qualified NEEt score.

Eligibility for MBBS in the Philippines

  • Students applying for MBBS in the Philippines, need to have a qualified NEET score.
  • Minimum of 50% marks in the subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology which should be from the recognized board.
  • Without NEET the student won't be able to apply for the course or his/her application won’t be considered for the further process.
