FMGE Exam

The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is a compulsory screening test for Indian students who have completed their medical studies abroad. The exam is conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). Candidates must pass FMGE to practice medicine in India. The exam is conducted twice a year - in June and December - and is essential for getting a license to practice in India. Candidates who completed their MBBS outside the country are exempted from appearing in this exam to practice in India. It is NOT an entrance test to get admission to a master's course offered by any medical university in India. It is just a medical licensing exam. FMGE June 2026 exam is set for 28 June. It's for foreign medical graduates who want to practice medicine in India. NBEMS opened online applications from 21 April to 11 May 2026. Check @natboard.edu.in for details.

The FMGE 2026 exam will be held on 17th January 2026. The result will be declared online on the official website natboard.edu.in by 17th February 2026. The online application process for FMGE 2026 started on 14th November 2025 (03:00 PM onwards). The last date to submit the application form is 4th December 2025.

Candidates who successfully complete payment can edit their application details during the general edit window from 9th December 2025 to 11th December 2025. A final selective edit window to correct images (photograph, signature, and thumb impression) will be open from 29th December 2025 to 31st December 2025. Applicants will receive information about their exam test city on 2nd January 2026. The FMGE 2026 admit card will be issued on 14th January 2026, which candidates must carry to the examination center.

FMGE Exam Frequency

As far as the frequency of the exam is concerned, candidates can either appear in June session or the December session. There is NO LIMIT on the number of attempts for a candidate, as well as no age limit for FMGE Exam. This means that even candidates who have failed in their earlier attempts can reappear as many times as they want. The FMGE registration process will be the same.

FMGE Exam Eligibility Criteria 2026

To appear for FMGE 2026, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must be a citizen of India or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).

  • You must have a primary medical qualification (MBBS equivalent) from a university outside India.

  • The Degree must be recognized by the respective medical authority and must be listed by World Directory of Medical Schools.

  • Those who completed MBBS Abroad from countries like China, Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Philippines, etc., also need to clear FMGE to practice in India.

FMGE June and December Session Registration

The registration process for FMGE December session dates are announced 17 January 2026 is exam date. Candidates should visit the official NBE website (natboard.edu.in/) to register and fill out the application form. It's important to submit the form before the last date and keep all documents ready.

FMGE Exemption for Certain Candidates 

Not Everyone needs to appear for FMGE Exam 2026 as some are exempted from it. The candidates who have completed their MBBS abroad and post-graduation from any university situated in the below-mentioned developed countries will get an exemption from the December session of the Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE Exam) conducted by the National Board of Examination.

Candidates will get a permanent or provisional certificate from the Medical Council of India (now the National Medical Commission/NMC) or State Medical Council without appearing for FMGE 2026 December session. After getting the requisite certification, candidates can practice in India.

NOTE- Candidates will ONLY get three attempts to pass FMGE exam. In any case, if a candidate does not pass the exam, then he/she can not appear again for the exam.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

  1. Visit the official website of the National Board of Examination and select FMGE option

  2. Now, click on new registration and read the instructions carefully 

  3. Once this is done, students need to submit their details like name, number, email id, etc.

  4. This shall generate the Login credentials, which will then be shared on the candidate’s phone via SMS or email

  5. Now, candidates need to log in again with the credentials (login ID and password) that you received.

  6. Once this process is done, candidates need to upload their academic details as well as a passport-size photograph, scanned signature, and thumb impression.

  7.  Select the exam center and lastly pay the fee 

  8.  As far as the fee for the December session of FMGE 2026 is concerned, the application fee is only INR 7,080, which the candidates can pay online through the payment gateway.

  • Recent Passport size photograph. (With the guidelines released by NBE). The photograph should be with name and date. Also, with a white background.

  • Scanned sign (With blue or black pen and without overwriting). Sign in the capital letter will be rejected

  • Clear thumb impression with white background 

  • Identity card issued by the government of India

  • Medical degree copy or scanned copy

  • Scanned copy of the MBBS pass certified by the Indian Embassy situated in that particular country

  • Copy of 12th mark sheet

  • Date of birth certificate 

  • Internship certificate 

FMGE 2026 Correction Window (June Session)

If there are any mistakes in your application form, NBE opens a correction window for June session which is 16 May to 18 May 2026. During this time, you can edit personal details, images, and uploaded documents. Note that some fields, like your name and email ID may not be editable, so make sure you fill them correctly the first time. Students will get a chance to correct the application form as the National Board of Examinations will open the correction window. Students can make corrections in a few important details, like

FMGE Admit Card 2026

The FMGE 2026 Admit Card will be released on the official NBE website. You can download it using your login credentials. It will contain important details like your exam center, date, and time. Make sure to carry a printed copy of the admit card and a valid photo ID to the exam center.

The FMGE Exam Pattern is a computer-based test conducted in two parts on the same day. Each part has 150 questions, making a total of 300 questions.

    FMGE Cut-Off 2026

    To pass FMGE, you must score at least 150 marks out of 300. There is no category-wise relaxation. All candidates must meet the same cut-off. Scoring 150 or above means you qualify and can apply for provisional or permanent registration with the NMC.

    FMGE Results 2026 (June and December)

    The results of FMGE Dec 2026 will be declared online on the official website. It will include a list of candidates who have passed the exam, along with their scores. Those who qualify can download their scorecard and apply for registration.
