NIRF RANKINGS 2021: EDUCATION MINISTER RELEASES DATA TODAY

The Union Ministry of Education released the 6th Annual National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings for the year 2021 today at 12:00 PM. It was an e-release/webcast on the official website of the platform i.e. nirfindia.org. The announcement for the same was made by the official Twitter handle of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

This year’s rankings will be in the form of separate lists for a number of different categories. These shall include the Top 25 Universities, Best MBA Institutes, Top Engineering Colleges, Top Colleges, and Best Medical Schools.

DETAILS OF THE RANKING METHODOLOGY

The institutes featured in these rankings will be scored based on overall 10 categories, including Law, Management, Medical, Engineering, Architecture, College, University, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), Pharmacy, and Overall.

In addition to this, institutes will also be ranked streamwise and in other sub-categories. Said subcategories will include Teaching, Learning, and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), as well as Peer Perception.

PAST TRENDS OF THE NIRF RANKINGS

The number of institutes being covered by the NIRF Rankings has constantly been increasing with each passing year. In 2020 alone, around 3,800 institutions had registered for the ranking, which is almost 20% more as compared to 2019.

In the last 6 years, since the NIRF Rankings first came up, only 2 universities have gained the top spot multiple times and these are IISC Bangalore and IIT-Madras. Last year too, IIT-Madras was the “Top Institute of India 2020 (Overall Category)”, whereas IISC Bangalore was declared the “Top University”. Thus, it could be one of these 2 who once again clinches the top spot.

2021 marks the second consecutive year the NIRF Rankings will be released online, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. Whatever the case, students will greatly benefit from these rankings in the upcoming admission season, as they shall get a clearer picture of the best institutions to choose for UG and PG courses.
