NEET UG 2025: Medical Career Options other than MBBS

NEET UG is the biggest medical entrance exam in India. In 2025 alone about 23 lakh students registered for NEET UG which shows how popular the medical field is. MBBS is the most preferred course but getting a seat in a reputed MBBS college is very hard. There are only about 1.05 lakh MBBS seats in India. As a result of that many students look for other good options in the medical field. Courses like BDS, BSc Nursing, BPharm, BAMS, BPT, BVSc, Biotechnology, and Biomedical Sciences are also great and offer good career opportunities.

BSc Nursing is a 4-year course that prepares students for hospital and public health jobs. You need PCB subjects in Class 12 with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories). It is affordable and in high demand. Nurses can earn ₹3–5 lakh per year in India and ₹20–50 lakh per year abroad. Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) is a  4-year course that teaches about the medicines, drug research, and pharmacy work. You can join after 12th with PCB or PCM and 50% marks. Some colleges accept NEET, but many use state exams or 12th marks. The pharma industry in India is large and growing, which offers jobs in research, sales, and production.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a 5-year course including its 1-year internship. It focuses on dental care and oral surgery. Admission is through NEET UG, and there are over 27,000 BDS seats in India. The professional dentists can earn between ₹3–8 lakh per year and those with MDS or private clinics earn more.

Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery is a 5.5-year course that teaches Ayurveda and modern medical knowledge. Admission is through NEET UG. BAMS graduates can work in clinics, hospitals, or wellness centers. They earn around ₹2–6 lakh per year, and experienced doctors can earn up to ₹20 lakh. Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc & AH), it is a 5.5-year course for those who love animals and animal care. Jobs are available in clinics, farms, and government jobs. Salaries start from ₹3–7 lakh per year, and experienced vets can earn up to ₹15 lakh.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is a 4-year course plus 6 6-month internship teaching physical therapy and rehabilitation. It’s useful in hospitals and fitness centers. You can earn ₹2–6 lakh per year as a fresher and up to ₹15 lakh with experience. Biotechnology and Biomedical Science: These fields are for students interested in research, vaccines, and medical innovation. Starting salaries are ₹3–6 lakh, and higher degrees can increase earnings. India’s biotech industry is growing fast and is expected to reach $150 billion by 2025.
