Disadvantages of Studying MBBS in Georgia

Many Indian students dream of becoming doctors. Because MBBS seats in India are limited and expensive, some students decide to study abroad. Georgia is one of the countries where Indian students go to study MBBS in Georgia. While Georgia offers many benefits like low fees, simple admission, and English-medium education, there are also some disadvantages students and parents should know before making a decision. There are many reasons for the disadvantages such as: 

• Recognition Issues by NMC: There is one issue which is important, that is whether a degree in medicine from Georgia is fully accepted or not. The NMC organisation has stand rules for the students who have completed their MBBS from countries other than India. If a medical university in Georgia does not follow NMC rules, Indian students may have problems getting registered or getting a license to work as a doctor in India.

• No Direct Admission to Government Hospitals for Internship: Indian MBBS students get their training from the government hospitals and these hospitals get many patients and cases through which the students can learn in practical. On the other hand, the universities of Georgia get their students trained from private hospitals and they see less cases as a result of which the students have less training.

• FMGE Exam is Tough: The Indian medical system requires the FMGE exam if the students want to practice their medicine in India. If we talk about this exam, this exam is considered to be hard and only 15% to 25% students have made it to the final list. As a result of this, remaining students have to study hard for the clearance of the exam even after studying MBBS from Georgia. 

• Language Barrier in Daily Life and Clinical Practice: There is one more challenge that is the language barrier. Even the universities of Georgia taught the students MBBS in English, when the students go for their training and internships they might face the challenges in understanding the problems of the patient. There are universities in Georgia that teach the basic Georgian language but it requires patience and time. 

• Climate and Cultural Differences: As many of us are aware that Georgia has cold weather. Students who will go to Georgia from the hotter parts of India might feel very uncomfortable due to the harsh colds. Sometimes, students might feel health issues and they can feel home sickness which is very normal. 

• Limited Part-Time Job Opportunities: Georgia as a country has very limited resources for the part time jobs for the Indian students as compared to other countries like the UK and USA. The students may have difficulty in searching for the part time jobs. At the same time, the cost of living in cities like Tbilisi can be higher and the same goes for the rent, food and transport.
