After NEET UG 2025, Thousands of Indian Students Choose to Study MBBS Abroad

The NEET UG 2025 result is out and over 12 lakh students have passed this important medical entrance exam. But there is a problem of seats, India has only 1.25 lakh MBBS seats which means many students will not get a seat in medical colleges here. Because of this large number of students are now planning to go abroad to study MBBS. Earlier, studying abroad was seen as the last option but now it has become a smart and popular choice for many students.

• NMC Approval: Indian students must choose universities approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

For example, MBBS universities in Georgia have a pass rate of 60% to 80%. The fees are affordable which ranging between ₹4–6 lakh per year, which makes it a cost-effective option compared to private colleges in India. These universities have a high FMGE pass rate of 60–80%, which shows the quality of education and the good chances of Indian students clearing the medical licensing exam on their return.

• Philippines: The country follows an American education system for medical studies where the course duration is 6 years. The fees are affordable, but the total study period is longer compared to some other countries. A key advantage is that all courses are taught in English, which makes it easier for Indian students to understand. 

• Hungary: The country is home to famous medical universities like Semmelweis, which are well known for their quality education and modern facilities. The FMGE pass rate is around 50%, which shows a decent success rate for Indian students returning to practice in India. 

When Should Students Start Planning?

Planning early is very important. Students must apply by mid summer to get admission on time. Each country and university has its own deadlines for applications, documents, and visa. If students miss the deadline they may have to wait one more year. Some students also take a gap year to try NEET again and get a government seat in India. But this can cause stress and delay. A better way is to apply to a foreign university and also prepare for NEET again so they have two options, not just one.
